NYSIA draws from its ranks four "wise guys and girls" who make predictions for the coming year, on issues ranging from the economy to the software/IT business to politics. This year we also will look back at their predictions last year - some of them were startlingly on the mark!

Andrew Brust
Andrew Brust, Vice-Chair on the NYSIA Board, is Chief, New Technology at twentysix New York. Andrew serves as Microsoft's Regional Director for New York and New Jersey, Visual Basic MVP and member of Microsoft's Business Intelligence Partner Advisory Council. Andrew is a member of the International .NET Association (INETA) Speakers Bureau and is a highly rated speaker at conferences throughout the U.S. and internationally. Often quoted in the technology industry press, Andrew has more than 18 years' experience programming and consulting in the financial, public, small business, and not-for-profit sectors. Erik K. Grimmelmann, Ph.D.
Erik K. Grimmelmann has over 20 years experience in developing, delivering, and operating information technology. He is currently Senior Vice President of Technology and Service Operations at Send Word Now (SWN) Communications Inc. Prior to SWN, he was the Vice President, Architecture and Lead Architect at Cometa Network, Inc., a provider of nationwide, enterprise-grade WiFi (802.11) wireless broadband Internet access, with access points located in major branded retail and real estate locations. Cometa was formed in December 2002 by IBM, AT&T, Intel and two venture firms, Apax and 3i.
Dr. Grimmelmann was CTO/CIO of PHI Technology, Inc., and The Redtop Company, LLC, startups providing next-generation information systems to evidence-based professions including behavioral health scientists and police detectives. From 1998 to 2000, he was Senior Vice President of Technology Infrastructure at Dun & Bradstreet where he was responsible for modernizing and globalizing D&B's worldwide infrastructure.
Dr. Grimmelmann spent 10 years at Bell Labs and an additional 10 years in other divisions of AT&T in a variety of senior positions including Vice President of Network and Access and Vice President of Service Integration and Realization. While at AT&T, he was responsible for the delivery of all AT&T network services based on the Internet Protocol (IP), as well as for the development and delivery of AT&T's WorldNet Internet Service.
Dr. Grimmelmann has served on the White House Science Office Counter-Terrorism Technology Oversight Panel, the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council Committee on Review of Switching, Synchronization, and Network Control in National Security Telecommunication, and on the boards of the Information Industry Association and the National Information Infrastructure Testbed.
In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of the New York Software Industry Association, he co-chairs the NYSIA CTO Council. He holds a BA from Haverford College, and an MS and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He lives with his wife and daughter in New York City and can be reached at egrimmelmann@att.net
Elizabeth Montalbano
Elizabeth Montalbano has worked as a senior writer for the IDG News Service since June 2005 and is currently its New York City correspondent. She covers Microsoft Corp. from corporate, product and competitive perspectives, as well as follows other software vendors and technologies, and has appeared as an expert on Microsoft on American Public Media's radio show Marketplace.
Prior to arriving at IDG, Elizabeth spent five years at CMP Media Inc.'s CRN magazine, where she covered Sun Microsystems Inc., application development, enterprise application integration, wireless networking, telecommunications, hardware and topics pertaining to partner channels. Before that she lived in Phoenix, Arizona, where she spent 18 months writing and editing news and features at a telecommunications trade publication, PHONE+. She is originally from Philadelphia and has an MFA in creative writing from Arizona State University.
Aron Trauring
Aron Trauring has worked nearly 25 years for high-tech companies in the US and abroad. He served in senior positions doing technical development and software project management he was one of the original developers of Statemate, a statechart simulation tool (statecharts are now part of the Unified Modeling Language). He also served in senior positions doing international sales and marketing for major high tech companies.
A serial entrepreneur, he co-founded one of the oldest, still-active, interactive media agencies, as well as an Internet B2B services company. He is currently CEO of Zoteca, an open solutions IT consultancy. Aron has been published in the trade press writing on topics such as software development methodologies and open source development tools. He has frequently been invited as a speaker at trade conferences in the U.S., Europe and Japan. His most recent articles can be found on his newly launched weblog, FOURM.info, which focuses on agile software development and FOSS.
